Letters from the Field – 2008

Flag of Tanzania

I am back from Tanzania where I visited the Karatu Lutheran Hospital. Of course, it is lacking a lot of things but they certainly do their best with what they have. Thanks to you and the volunteers at the warehouse; they packed my suitcase absolutely full and knew what to put in there!

On behalf of the Medical Assistance for Jamaica team, I thank you again for your invaluable assistance from the beginning. You did a fantastic job in your presentation ... then you offered us advice whenever we asked for it ... and you worked with us side by side to the end of the project, doing a great deal of organizing and packing the supplies and equipment. We are all enthralled by the dedication of everyone who plays a role at IHC. Such dedication deserves emulation! Thank you! Thank you!

Once more thank you for your generosity and care for fellow human beings. I am confident ESUT Teaching Hospital will be better equipped because of your donation. I wish to thank International Hope, my brother Reg, his friend Dr. Anyadike and the entire Ibo Umunna group in Winnipeg for this great event. Our hospital surely will provide improved services and be a better place as a result of your donation.

The work here has reminded me just how valuable all the isopropyl, hydrogen peroxide, and Epsom salts were — not to mention all the other supplies. Today, one of the younger missionaries was soaking his foot in a hot bath made from one of the last of the boxes of Epsom salt. He had a nail go right through his shoe and into his foot more than an inch. He is thankful for good supplies. Thank you so very much for your help. God is so very good to us.

What a learning and growing experience it was for all of us! The people were very grateful and gracious hosts and shared what little they have with the volunteers. Although there is desperate poverty there is a richness of loving families. They also gratefully received the gifts from International Hope. Our group sincerely wants to thank all the volunteers at International Hope who make these much needed medical supplies available to these very needy people.
