11 September 2009 Agreement Enables WRHA Donations to ResumeRoma Maconachie, President of International HOPE Canada Inc. has informed the volunteers and supporters of the organization that the donation of redundant medical supplies and equipment from Manitoba Health facilities will continue with the blessing of health authorities.This announcement comes following a meeting held earlier today with Arlene Wilgosh, Deputy Minister of Health and Healthy Living for the Province of Manitoba and Dr. Brian Postl, President and CEO of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. In the meeting, health officials indicate their support for the efforts of International HOPE Canada and stated that the collection of items and the re-distribution to impoverished communities around the world could resume immediately. A waiver of liability will be provided with each shipment. For the past ten years International HOPE Canada, an all-volunteer group, has collected and serviced items donated from health-care facilities and agencies and given them to recipient communities in more than two dozen countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe. From 40-foot shippping containers to single suitcases packed and carried by individual medical personnel, the group has impacted thousands of lives overseas where medical resources are scarce or non-existent.
